dreaming about spring....

we are all super ready for winter to be gone and for spring to make its glorious appearance! it is way hard being stuck inside for so long. this morning i opened my bedroom blinds to let in some light because it just seemed so dreary inside. i went to do a few things when i came back both my boys were just looking out the window. it made me laugh. i had to go join them in day dreaming about spring and playing in the grass.

good news, its suppose to be in the 50's this sunday and monday! we're already making plans to go to the park with friends!

other things on me mind tonight...

i am feeling a bit discouraged and overwhelmed at the same time with my attempts at blogging, my etsy shop, and my photography.

blogging: i love to blog. its the perfect place to keep a journal and its super therapeutic. even though this is for me i like to know that there are other's who are enjoying reading my blog. i know numbers are not important but i love seeing my "followers" list go up. its a super amazing feeling and it makes me want to...dance!!

so if you are reading my little ol' blog let me know! you can follow my blog by clicking the follow button. AND it always makes my day when people leave comments. i love comments. for reals.

etsy: my etsy shop has actually been doing well. for the first time ever! i am ecstatic that i have found my "thing". it is a lot of work though! i finally decided to take a small break for a few days to regroup and get focused. i feel like a have a bazillion things going on and i am getting so overwhelmed.

photography. hmm...yeah. that must not be my lot in life which totally bums me out. i have been trying to get into the photography field for so long. i really need to go take a class on photoshop or something. i think that would really make my photography be so much better. i don't know. ever since i was a little girl i have LOVED taking pictures. it has always been something that has made me super happy. i am still going to keep working at this.

well, i have some big things going on and decisions that need to be made. and honestly, if these are the things that are troubling me in my life i will take them any day! my life is amazing! i could not wish for anything else..except spring. ;)

love, jess

Bow Ties and Dresses

I found my niche

I have been searching for my "thing" for a while now and I think I have finally found it! I owe it all to my little man who has inspired me more than anything else in this whole wide world! Well, except for Pinterest...

JUST KIDDING!

I was making all these things for little girls and that was great but it wasn't completely fulfilling. I wanted to create something for my baby. I have called him my "little man" since the day he was born. Little men should wear bow ties. Duh! ;) So I made him one. It was ADORABLE! I posted a few on Etsy and BAM! I was in business!

I have sold way more than I ever expected actually. I had requests for weddings! I have had offers for professional photography. I have been featured on other bloggers blogs and in Etsy treasury shops. It has been so wonderful. I KNEW this was going to be a good year!

I have some amazing things planned for Spring! You guys should check out my new Spring Bow Tie collection {HERE}! They are so fantastic!

Kenny's little "girlfriend" has inspired me to make matching dresses and bow ties. Yep! It has already happened! I will be taking pictures this week to share! For Mother's day I will be doing matching dresses (for baby girl), bow ties (for baby boy) and skirts (for mama) and for Father's Day I will be doing ties (for daddy), bow tie (for baby boy) and dresses (for baby girl)!

I cannot even begin to describe the cuteness that will be taking place over at Dream Catcher Baby!

My Week via Phone Pictures

1. Kenny has found a new love for reading. I am so happy about this! I put all his books down low so he can reach them and read whenever which he does fairly often now! (Pic taken on his birthday!)
2. I bought these big'ol sunglasses for Kenny's party. He has been completely obsessed with them. HAHA! It's super funny!
3. For a few days I was able to have my very own Princess. I loved having this pretty little girl with us! What a sweet and happy little angel! I want a girl even more than ever!
4. Kenny has been a big helper lately! His favorite is helping me stir whatever is on the stove top.
5. So my super good friend {Jess Steen} gave me the coolest birthday present. The best smelling oil thingy. I LOVE IT! AND...the best Cupcake cookbook EVER! I seriously was thinking about making every recipe, once a week. Then I realized that it would make me way fat. Hehe. I have been working too hard to get fit. I am going to make a recipe once a month and I will share it here on my blog!
6. I HAD to try one of the dresses I made on my cute little model! It made me so happy that I took her outside hoping someone would see how cute she is and how cute that dress looked on her. Nobody came by...
7. I guess Kenny decided to reminisce about sitting in his Bumbo. HAHA! It was the funniest thing walking into the room and seeing my ginormous baby sitting (stuck of course) in his old Bumbo.
8. Kenny loves glasses. Isn't he so cute? I just love him. We have so much fun!

It was seriously a great week! Tomorrow is my birthday and I get to spend the evening with some of my closest friends! I am also a little sad...Kenny is spending the night with Grandma and Grandpa Swenson and it will be our first night apart. For my birthday I just wanted to sleep in. Kenny doesn't wake up super early but it would be so awesome to just wake up naturally!

Anyway...I hope the end of my week is as good as the beginning!

24 seems old...

Yellow Bird, Yellow Beard=LOVE

I seriously love this blogger! She has been so awesome to get to know a little better! I sent one of my bow ties to her and she took pictures of her incredibly adorable nephew modeling it!!

{HERE}

I love blogging for so many reasons, I think my favorite though is getting to know other bloggers! What a fun world to be apart of! I am super glad I started blogging!

I seriously am so freaking HAPPY!! :D

Kenny is ONE!

Um...I seriously am so in love with these two!

I can't describe the love I feel for this little man. If you're a mom...you know what I'm feeling. :) I have never been happier than I have been with my Mick and Kenny!

He's a year old now.

WHOA!

I sometimes wish I could freeze time for just a minute so I can catch my breath!

Kenny at age ONE:

`He loves his Chaz! In fact he says "Chaz" and knows who Chaz is. He doesn't say "Mama" or "Dada". Yeah...
`He sits in a big boy carseat. Its pretty much the coolest thing ever!
`He LOVES Mexican food. Even the spicy stuff (in very small quantities of course).
`He gives the best hugs. They are probably my favorite things in the whole world. Hugs and Kisses.
`He gets more excited to see his Grandpa Swenson than just about everyone else!
`His favorite shows are still Baby Mozart and The Colbert Report. He will usually sits to watch football as well! YES!!!
`He is trying so hard to run. It's scaring me...
`He is pretty dang good at baby babbling. He will definitely let us know what's going on in his little world.
`He is in love with a fellow blogger's little baby girl. I'm totally serious! He LOVES watching videos of that little angel face!
`He drinks big kid milk.
`He thinks the sound that a straw makes when pulling it out of the lid is HILARIOUS!
`He gets super mad if you take a shower without him. He will bang on the door and yell until you let him in or distract him with a show or food. HAHAHA!

I am so blessed to be Kenny's mama. I love every moment I get to spend with him. He truly lights up our world with those big brown eyes of his. I am so grateful that he decided he wasn't going to wait until Mick and I were "ready" for him to come to this earth. He has made our lives so much better in every way. I am super excited to see how our lives enfold this coming year as a family!

2/19/12

And Then There Was a Mustache Bash!

Kenny will be one tomorrow. Whoa...

We celebrated his birthday yesterday. It was so much fun even though the only people who came were Mick's brother (and his family) and my friend Bree. Yep. Oh well. We really did have a lot of fun! :D

I will post more pictures and all the details later!

2/15/12

MOVE...

We moved. Yep. It only took a day...and lots of $$$$. HAHA I don't even care this is AWESOME!!!

I seriously LOVE my new home! It has turned out absolutely wonderful so far and it is still a messy (which only means that as I get stuff put away and our space decorated it will get better and better! And that my friends, is hard for me to imagine!). I CANNOT wait for warm weather! I LOVE our location! We are two blocks from Downtown and in the Summer there is so much to do!

Well, I have LOTS to do so I had better get to it. I will be taking a break from my little blog for a few days. Until then...

Fill In the Blanks...

1. I started my blog because: I started my blog for my family. I wanted an easy and fun way to keep them all up to date with my life. I was super good at updating but eventually it became an outlet for me. I was able to use my blog to keep track of special memories, to be creative, and to post photos. I have just recently started sharing my blog with more than just my family and close friends.

2. One thing I love seeing on other blogs are: DIY, Being a mama (whether of a child or pet...i really enjoy reading about other's adventures in motherhood!), pictures, and fashion posts!

3. Something I love about blogging: I love being able to share a piece of me and my family with others! I love posting tutorials. I especially love all the wonderful comments people leave me!

4. A favorite blog post of mine: I think I would have to say that {this one} would top among my most favorite!

5. Something my friends in real life know about me that I've never before mentioned on my blog
Hmm...i think it would be that I hate chocolate. In fact...its so hard for everyone to believe that they often forget. I guess they don't want it to true and so the refuse to even let it register in their brains that someone would actually dis like chocolate! I also hate watermelon.

6. My new favorite blogs to read are: The Daybrook and Rockstar Diaries. I love The Daybrook because of her incredible style that is always up to date and modest! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Rockstar Diaries because of her amazing style and especially because of her motherhood adventures!

7. Some things I tend to avoid doing on my blog are:
Politics. I have my own opinions but I definitely prefer to keep them to myself. No. Don't even ask. I wont tell you. ;) But seriously. I have realized that it just stirs up too much contention when views differ and people get really mean.

2/8/12

So...WE GOT A HOUSE!

Yes! We did! Okay technically its a duplex...and we're only renting but I cannot even describe how excited I am to have our own place with all of our stuff!!! It's tiny...actually its a good size for a family of three. It is in such an awesome location! Close to parks and Center street (where all my favorite boutiques and antique shops are!). Its right next door to church, the neighbors are totally cool, we will have a garden that I wont have to actually tend to (I wish I loved gardening but...I don't. Maybe because I can't seem to get things to grow. I can't even grow weeds. Seriously. Ask my mom! She totally knows how great (sarcasm) my green thumb is!).

I have been packing like a mad woman. We move into our place on Monday but I want to be mostly packed by Friday because my lil sis is coming for a visit and I REALLY want to do fun stuff with her and not boring stuff like...packing.

So I decided to start featuring some of my favorite items I found on Pinterest! Enjoy!

If I had an iPhone I would definitely have either of these!

Here
It's time to add these to my wardrobe!
HERE
I have these in burgundy and I LOVE them! I can't seem to get over the mint color though!

I am definitely making my little Indian a teepee this year! I will play in it often! ;) Just kidding...maybe.

I am completely obsessed with these pillows! NEED!!!

DIY Fabric Flag Garland

My little man's 1st birthday party is coming up in just 10 short days! I decided on a "Mustache Bash" theme! I am sooooooooooooo excited! I was going to buy all the supplies I needed but it was really starting to add up. So of course I decided to just make them myself---duh! Ha! Here is the first item I made.
(I will post tutorials for all the items I make so make sure you follow my blog and get them all!!)

Fabric Flag Garland

What You'll Need:

-Six coordinating fabric (7" by 6")
-Bias tape (I used Wrights 1/2" Wide-4 yrds. in Off White)
-Sewing machine
-Scissors

(All seems are 1/4")

Step One:

Cut four 7"x6" of each fabric. Total of 48 pieces.

Fold your first piece in half. Draw a strait line from top edge (Shorter width of fabric-6") to the bottom center. Cut along the line to make a triangle. You can then use that triangle as a pattern for the rest of your pieces.

Step Two:

Sewing the pieces together! Place two (matching) fabric pieces together, right sides facing each other. Sew the two slanted sides. Make sure you leave the top (6" end) open! Trim seams to 1/8 of an inch and trim tip.

Turn. Press.

Step Three:

Binding! Now measure your bias tape according to how long you want your ends (the part where you pin or tie). I measured about 10 inches for mine. Fold in half and start pinning your flags to the inside of the bias tape. Sew as close to the edge of the bias tape as you would like.

DIY Grown-up "Piggy Bank"

What You'll Need:

-Mason jar (I used a quart size)
-Spray paint in any color (I used Satin Almond)
-Scrap fabric at least 6x6 inches
-Scissors, hot glue gun, tag (opt.)

Step One:

Spray paint your jar. Be very careful to not spray too much in one spot because it will drip. AND make sure you do this out side or in a very well ventilated area. Let dry according to spray paint directions.

Step Two:

Cut your fabric into a circle. I used the lid ring to measure the length I wanted. Make you do at least an inch and a half around the ring to create the skirt look. Glue the fabric to the lid part.

Step Three: (Optional)
Create your own personalized tag! I am using my jar as a piggy bank to save my money in. You can use yours for whatever you would like!

Step Four:

Put it all together! You're finished!! Enjoy!

YOU CHOOSE!!!

I have SO much to be thankful for! I wish I didn't forget that so often. My life hasn't been perfect but I thing it has turned out pretty amazing so far.

I had a super rough childhood. It's something I hate talking about. When Mick told me that we were going to South Dakota for the summer last year I burst into tears. I grew up there and lots of great things happened but a LOT of terrible things happened first.

**I don't write these things so people feel sorry for me. I only share to give a little background. It is personal but I hope it helps you know me a little better.**

After Mick told me the news and I reacted with tears and anger he said I can either start off hating the summer or I could just decide to make it wonderful! He has right! It was a bit hard but I decided to have a great summer! I decided to be excited to try something new.

We got to good ol' SD and wow...I was flooded with so many memories of my childhood. Memories I had put into a box and locked away hoping to never think about again. Its been almost 10 months since the summer when these memories began to flood my mind. I decided it was time to share a bit of my story.

Before I was adopted at age eleven I spent years going from place to place, from foster home to grandma's to my biological parents and at times being completely on my own with no adults to take care of me and my younger siblings. There were WAY too times that I had to be the mom, starting at age 6. I had to find ways to feed myself and my siblings. I had to make sure they got to school. I had to make sure they didn't burn the house down or harm them selves in any way.
I also had to take care of my cousins and random people's kids. I once had to save a two year old from his mother who was so drunk that she just threw him outside in the snow because he was crying.
I experienced and saw death in so many ways. The worse was when my 16 year old cousin hung herself in a tree because her boyfriend broke up with her.

I am not going to share any more stories or to go into too many of the details because I still can't bring myself to share them with others. I am not ready to say them out loud or write them. Really bad things happened to me and my sibling and thinking about them still hurts more than I can ever describe.

But things changed.

Three of my four siblings, two of my cousins and I were put up for adoption. HA. That almost makes us sound like we were pets to be adopted out. But that's not how it is. Hehe.

I wont go into that whole story because it is long and this is already turning into a book. So we were adopted by our second cousins (twice removed...what????) Robert and Robin Hunt. There were so many angry people. Rob and Robin were super young and had never had kids. WHY would they be chosen to adopt SIX children all at the same time?

Here is why.

They had God as their companion.

Now, I am NOT one to be preachy or to force my faith and beliefs on others. I definitely prefer to share my faith through example. I have had people ask me why I am the way I am and I will happily share what I believe it is but I want everyone who reads this post to know that it isn't to preach or like I said earlier, to "force" my religion on others.

My parents (adopted) are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints aka Mormon. They are humble and good, wonderful, kind, accepting people. They took us in and loved us. They took care of us. They provided for all our needs. They taught us how to work hard. They kissed our scraped knees, rubbed our upset tummies and gave us home made Spider Spray to kill spiders with (which we now know was just water in an old hair spray bottle. Tricky! Very tricky!).

Most importantly, they taught us that families are FOREVER! Not just until we die but even after we die when we go to heaven.
For more information go HERE.

I am all grown up now. I had many opportunities use my past as an excuse to be unhappy. I had opportunities to stop going to this church, and I did at one point. But I couldn't stay away for too long! Yes, the LDS faith is strict. Yes, its hard to follow all  the "rules". But I found that it was so much harder to try and not care than it was to be a good LDS woman.

I believe that you do not have to be Mormon to be truly happy (although there are certain things you will find in the LDS faith you won't find any where else that personally bring me the most happiness and purest joy. If you wish to know what I feel those things are please ask me! I would love to share with those who wish to know). I believe you DO need to have God there by your side to help guide you through this crazy thing we call Life.

I started off this life the way NO child should. I still think about the things my siblings and I had to go through before we were able to just be happy and loved and protected from the evils of this world. We could have grown up bitter and angry. We could have become addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. We could have dropped out of school and been bums or teenage parents. We could have chosen to be unhappy and depressed and used the excuse "But look at how our childhood was".

NO! We DECIDED to be different and to make something AMAZING of our lives.

I met an amazing man who showed me what true love was. He asked me to marry him and I said yes! We then became an eternal family and 9 months later we added the sweetest baby boy to our forever family. I am starting my own business. I have siblings getting married, going on missions (HERE), going to college, working hard to earn money, working hard to get good grade in high school because they have been given a college scholarship! We don't always make the right choices. We are not always 100% happy every minute of our day. BUT we ARE happy!

The moral of this story is....

WE CHOSE HAPPINESS. WE CHOSE!

Later: I have been looking at this post for several days now trying to decide if I was going to post it or not. I am super scared. I don't know what of or why.
Will people read this and think bad of me. Will people read this and feel awkward around me or my family? Will people read this and judge?

I don't know the answers. But here is what I hope. I hope that maybe someone will read this and will find hope, faith, strength, or will simply just be inspired to be a little better.

What ever the result, I know that if feels good to finally share this story. Yes a lot has been left out but I hope that there is enough.

Blickenstaff's

THE best toy store EVER!

At least the best toy store we have ever been to! This store is like heaven on earth for kids AND adults! Mick and I have gone in there many many times way before we had Kenny. Yeah. It's that amazing!
Its a good thing its a fairly small store because I ALWAYS lose Mick who is off getting super excited about the fun toys and games.
Kenny is watching the trains go around the room up on on the ceiling.
This was Kenny's favorite "toy".  He loved pushing it around the store as fast as he could!
Hence...the blurry pictures. You can still see the smile on his face though!

Photo Contest!

One of the things I wanted to do this month is start a photo contest on my blog! I have LOVED entering photo contests in the past (especially the one's I won!). I would love to see lots and lots of photos entered! AND I will reward the 1st place winner with a prize! YAY!

One of my favorite photo printing sites is Shutterfly. I have always been impressed with the great quality prints, the service, the prices, everything! I order all my prints from them. I decided to give the 1st place winner an 8x10 print of the photo they entered from Shutterfly! (Maybe I will enter this contest...HA! Just kidding!)

Here are the rules:

1. ABSOLUTELY NO nudity. Lets keep this PG.
2. There must be a person in the photo.
3.You must be a follower of my blog.
4. Make sure you have a back link to my blog

****NOTE: Make sure on step 1. where is asks you to "link" that you give the link YOUR blog address. That way it will take me to your blog and I can look at the picture better! And I would love to go check out your blog anyways (unless you chose to keep it private which is totally cool)!!

Share this with your friends! It will be fun!

xoxo

Wordless Wednesday

I just now decided to take part in this...hehe!

Me and Kenny one year ago.

February=A GREAT Month!!

So February is basically one of my very favorite months...EVER!

I personally love V-day. Mick and I like to do our own thing in the comfort of our home. I am really not into going out to uber busy restaurants and I hate chocolates. Last year we celebrated this lovey dovey day with a heart shaped pizza from a local pizza place and he gave me a pretty little flower. We watched a chick flick and snuggled. I made him homemade peanut butter chocolates and a card. It was simple and totally great! That's how I like it.

I am doing some fun stuff on the blog and a few things on my fellow bloggers blogs! WAHOO! I am way excited to be doing that! Like WAY excited!

The 20th is Kenny's first birthday. I have planned the best b-day party ever! It's totally over the top and way unnecessary (he is just a little guy after all and most likely will not remember a single thing from it) but I am having sooooo much fun that I don't even care! It will be the party of the year! ;) Just kidding. I would never presume to be that great of a party planner but I think it will be pretty great! I am just so dang excited!

The 24th is my birthday! I don't exactly love getting "older" but I love birthdays! Last year I was just barley home from the hospital after having Kenny and was so tired that all I remember was that Mick made the best Lasagna ever AND it was the first birthday in years I was able to spend with a member of my familia (my Mom!).

Here are just a couple of the great things that have already happened in the month of February...Yeah...it's still the 1st! I'm telling ya! This is a great month!!!

Mick got a job today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wait....

MICK GOT A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, almost. He goes in tomorrow and that is when they will officially offer him the job. HA! I am so excited and so proud of my husband's hard work to find...work! We are super excited!

I made my first sale today! I sell a super duper awesome drink called Choffy! Its basically brewed hot chocolate. Its super healthy and tastes amazing! I am so happy that I made that sale! It definitely gave me the confidence to keep at it!

I wore red lipstick today for the first time. I was kinda nervous but I decided to just do it! This is why {HERE}. I am so glad I did! People actually asked me where I got my lipstick at because they loved it! Wow! Another boost for my confidence! (NOT in a prideful way. Just a humble, grateful, and positive way.)

I've lost two pounds! I usually don't keep track of my weight but after having the baby and letting myself get a bit "fluffy" I decided I would keep track until I started SEEING progress. I don't know why. I guess its just a small form of motivation for me. I like to see the scale go down. Maybe I will just keep track until I get down to my pre-pregnancy weight. Or at least within 5 pounds of it!

It has seriously been a great day! I hope your's has been awesome too!

xoxo
